by ECHC Communications

This weekend features a lone matchup for the Empire Collegiate Hockey Conference as Sacred Heart University - FED takes the ice for an out-of-league game against Yeshiva University (ACHA M3) on Sunday night at 7:00 p.m.

Sacred Heart University - FED

Sacred Heart is in its inaugural season, building their program from the ground up. While still searching for their first win, they’ve faced tough competition early, including losses to Farmingdale State College (12-4) and Fordham University (8-2), both top-20 teams in AAU College Hockey Division II. Despite the challenges, the team is steadily gaining experience, with leading scorers Benjamin Hepler (2G, 2A) and Benjamin Bajazath (2G, 2A) providing offensive sparks.

Designated as an AAU College Hockey Federation team, SHU is declared non-tournament bound this season. This matchup offers a valuable opportunity to regroup and build momentum for the second semester.

Yeshiva University (ACHA M3)

Yeshiva University also enters Sunday’s contest in their inaugural season. While their program played exhibition games last year, the Maccabees are officially competing this season, holding an 0-4 record. Their schedule has included a mix of ACHA Division III opponents, such as a 9-6 loss to Western Connecticut State University and a 13-1 defeat to St. Thomas Aquinas College.

Leading the charge for Yeshiva are forwards Sol Feder (3G, 2A) and Gabriel Hornblass (3G, 2A), each contributing five points in three games. They’ll look to ignite their offense against SHU in hopes of earning their first victory.

What to Watch For

Sunday’s game marks a meeting of two programs at the start of their journeys. Sacred Heart will aim to capitalize on their higher division experience, while Yeshiva seeks to compete strongly against a Division II opponent. Both teams are hungry for growth, making this matchup an intriguing showcase of determination and emerging talent.

Puck drops at 7:00 p.m. at Martire Family Arena — don’t miss it!
