Ramapo College Aims to Move Forward After Key Departures with Strong Core and New Talent

by ECHC Communications

As the 2024-25 season begins, Ramapo College of New Jersey aims to make a strong impact in their new division after moving from the ECHC Purple Division to the Black Division. With a solid group of returning players and fresh talent joining the roster, the Roadrunners are looking to improve upon last season's results.

Returning Forwards: Ramapo brings back a group of experienced forwards, including Luca Carnemolla, Anthony (Brock) Fizer, and Jacob Hepburn, who will be key to the team’s offensive efforts this season. Brock Fizer, who had a standout season last year with 45 points (28 goals, 17 assists) in 21 games, will once again lead the charge up front. Eric Miles, Ryan Koliopoulos, Brady Vella, and Robert Wogisch add further depth and experience to a well-rounded forward group.

New Forwards: Ramapo has added several promising new forwards to its roster, including Matthew Cochran (Jersey Hitmen, USPHL-Elite), who tallied 13 points in 24 games. Adam Moskal (New Jersey Avalanche 18U AA) and Daniel Phillips (Ramsey High, USHS-NJ) also join the team, looking to contribute to the Roadrunners’ attack. Another notable recruit, James Sonvico (High Point High, USHS-NJ), posted 21 points in his last season and is expected to add some offensive firepower to the lineup.

Key Departures: The Roadrunners will need to replace significant offensive production from graduates, most notably Thomas Moskal, who recorded 46 points (19 goals, 27 assists) in 23 games last season. Rory Maurer and Michael Piccinich are also among the top five scorers who have graduated, leaving a void in both goal-scoring and playmaking. However, Anthony (Brock) Fizer, last season’s second-leading scorer, will help keep the team competitive in the offensive zone.

Returning Defensemen: Ramapo’s blue line remains anchored by key returning defensemen like Brian Atwell, who represented Ramapo in Team Empire at the 2024 AAU College Hockey All-Star Challenge. George Charbonneau, Duncan Geoghegan, and Devin Haines return to provide stability and experience on defense. Ty Watson rounds out the returning group, offering a physical presence and leadership from the back end.

New Defensemen: The defense corps has also been bolstered by new additions like Daniel Kulbanskiy (New Jersey Avalanche 18U AAA), who posted 6 points in 28 games last season, and Tommy Korpics (Cutting Edge King Cobras 18U AA), who contributed 5 points in 17 games. Timothy Warvig, transferring from Rider University (ACHA M2), adds further depth and experience to the blue line.

Goaltending: Ramapo’s goaltending situation saw a complete overhaul, with both starting goaltender Paul Fiorello and backup Bryan Bartels having moved on. Alec Rittenhouse (Igloo Jaguars 18U AA2) steps into the crease as the new goaltender for the Roadrunners, bringing a 2.31 goals-against average and a .907 save percentage from last season. His solid performance in net will be crucial as the Roadrunners adjust to the new division.

Last Season Recap: Ramapo had a challenging finish to last season, losing to Fordham University in the qualifying round of the ECHC Purple Division playoffs. The Roadrunners qualified for the National Championships, entering as the last seed in the DII tournament. Despite their best efforts, Ramapo was unable to secure a win in their three pool play games, ending their season without advancing further.

As they transition into the Black Division, Ramapo College will look to both its returning players and new recruits to make a strong impact. With a mix of veteran experience and incoming talent, the Roadrunners are aiming to build on last season’s results.
