Purple Division Semifinals: Fairfield Upsets Quinnipiac

by Justin Miller

In the second game of the Purple Division semifinals, #2 Quinnipiac took on #3 Fairfield. At the 7:50 mark of the first period, Brendan Cullen unleashed a cannon of a power play goal to put Fairfield on top. They were quickly countered by Qunnipiac, with Jonathan Parker getting a goal in tight just seven seconds afterwards.

Despite the setback, Fairfield continued on their upset bid when Brendan Burke tipped in a power play goal to take back the lead. The Stags held onto the slim, one-goal lead until the late second period. Glen Considine got a one-on-one opportunity and capitalized with the game-tying marker.

Tied 2-2 to start the third, Quinnipiac took their first lead when Parker scored his second of the game through the five hole. But less than a minute later, Zach Lee cleaned up a rebound to tie the game yet again. At the 6:21 mark, Connor Momrow knocked in a puck in front of the net to get Fairfield their lead back. From here, Fairfield completely dominated the game. They scored three consecutive goals, courtesy of Christopher Cummings, Ned Malolepszy, and Cullen’s second goal of the game. This sealed the deal on a 7-3 upset victory for Fairfield to make the finals. They’ll be taking on Farmingdale in the finals.
