Purple Division Quarterfinals: Fairfield Eliminates Delaware

by Justin Miller

In the second game of the Purple Division tournament, #3 Fairfield Fordham took on #6 Delaware. Looking for a massive upset, Delaware drew first blood with Michael Sofia going five-hole on a backhanded shot. The Blue Hens held off the Fairfield offense up until late into the second period. Tyler Machi tied the game up with a quick shot that came from the left circle at the 2:28 mark of the period.

Within the first minute of the third, Zach Lee gave the Stags the lead with a shot from the point. However, in the next minute, Ethan Abramovich unleashed a rocket to tie the game for Delaware.

From here on out, Fairfield took control of this game. Ned Malolepszy whacked in the go-ahead go on a rebounded puck at the 12:53 mark. Then, Brendan Burke deflected in a power play goal to put the Stags up by two. Ronan Curry and Aidan Brazel scored Fairfield’s fourth and fifth goals of the period to further insure their lead in this one. Fairfield defeated Delaware by a 6-2 final score. Fairfield will be playing against Quinnipiac in their semi-final game on Saturday.
